Hours:

All Clerk's Offices are open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding Court holidays.

The Traffic Clerk's Office is open for Night Court on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Probate Attorney’s Office hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Criminal courtroom hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you have a scheduled court date you may report directly to the courtroom. Otherwise, please report to the Criminal Clerk’s Office, Room 401, no later than 8:30 a.m.

Small Claims Night Court: Small Claims trials are held at 5:00 p.m. every 3rd Tuesday of the month (the Clerk's Office is not open).

Self-Help Center hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesdays (see Self-Help Center below for more information).

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Long Beach Court Office, Domestic Violence Clinic hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Parking: The parking structure is located across the street from the courthouse at 101 S. Magnolia Avenue. Parking costs $6.00 per entry into the parking structure, except for jurors.
Food: Snack Bar is on the 1st Floor and the Cafeteria is on the 6th Floor.
Disabilities:

Parking Structure

  • There are thirteen ADA accessible parking spaces on the 1st parking level and two accessible spaces on the 2nd level.
  • From the parking structure, there is a ramp for wheelchair users in the direction of the court building.
  • On the court building side of the street, beyond the crosswalk, there are access ramps to the left for the employee’s entrance and to the right for the judge’s entrance.

Courtroom Entrances

  • Both the southwest and southeast ends of the courthouse have access ramps.
  • The ramp and door to Department 12 are accessible.

Courthouse Building

  • The ADA restrooms on the 2nd and 5th floors are accessible.
  • The telephones on the 1st Floor are accessible.
  • Floors 1 through 5 are accessible via elevators. The 6th Floor is not accessible by elevator. Access to the 6th Floor via the security elevator must be prearranged with courthouse security.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

The ADR Office is located in Room 316, 3rd Floor.

Los Angeles Superior Court Rules, Chapter Twelve; California Rules of Court, Rules 1600-1639 and Code of Civil Procedure §1141.10 –1141.31 and §1775 – 1775.15 governs the Los Angeles Superior Court Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Program.

  • ADR Clerk - Upon referral to ADR, the parties must immediately:
    1. Complete the ADR intake forms ADR Case Referral Intake (ADR-039, to be completed by the Plaintiff with signature of all parties) and ADR Demographic Information (ADR-011, one sheet must be completed for each litigant named in the action).
    2. Submit completed forms to the ADR Clerk.
    NOTE: ALL FORMS MUST BE PROPERLY COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED TO THE ADR CLERK WITHIN 10 DAYS OF THE DATE ON THE NOTICE OF REFERRAL.
  • Neutral Selection
    Unlimited Jurisdiction - the parties may select a Neutral from the Court's ADR web site.
    Limited Jurisdiction - The ADR Clerk randomly selects a Neutral.
  • ADR Completion Date - Unless the Court has set a completion date, the ADR Clerk will set a completion date on the 60th day from the date of assignment in mediation cases and on the 90th day for arbitration cases.

Custody Information

You may obtain information after 10:30 a.m. in the Criminal Clerk's Office, Room 401. Custody felony arraignments are typically heard at 1:30 p.m. in Department J. Misdemeanor custody arraignments are heard in Department 1.

Family Law Temporary Restraining Orders

These matters are heard daily from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Department A (odd-numbered cases) and Department N (even-numbered cases). At the time of filing of the Order to Show Cause (O.S.C.), the hearing date is set approximately 21 days away.

Legal Aid Foundation, Domestic Violence Clinic

The Legal Aid office is located on the 1st Floor, Room 102. The phone number is (562) 435-3501.

The Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Long Beach Court Office, Domestic Violence Clinic hours of operation are 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The office offers assistance with domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, abduction and custody and visitation.

Family Law

Ex-Parte hours are daily 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Mandatory Mediation hours are Monday through Friday at 1:30 p.m. ONLY.

All other matters are heard Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m., unless otherwise specified by notice of the Court.

Telephonic continuances may be granted only with the agreement of both parties and the subsequent receipt of a written stipulation. The clerk must clear all continuances.

Probate Attorney

The Probate Attorney's office hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Room 43.

Ex-parte matters may be brought to the Probate Attorney's office on Tuesdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and Thursdays from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. only. Please bring all ex-parte petitions with the court files to the Probate Civil Attorney's Office for review prior to appearing. Obtain court files from the Civil Clerk's Office, Room 205, 2nd Floor.

The Probate Calendar is heard in Department H on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Telephone hours are the same as the above listed office hours.

Probate Guardianship Clinic: 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the 4th Floor, Room 40B. An attorney is available to assist with the completion of probate guardianship paperwork.

Administrative Services

The Adminstrative Services Division is located in Room 209 on the 2nd Floor.

You may obtain information about overdue bail refunds, returned checks, non-expert witness fees by calling (562) 491-6205. Information about Professional Appointee Expenses (PACE) claims, such as attorney and expert witness fees may be obtained by calling (213) 974-7541 or (213) 974-7583.

Bail Refunds

Bail refunds are processed 4 to 6 weeks after the bail exoneration date. The bail refund check will be mailed to the current address on file. If it has been more than six weeks since the bail was exonerated and you have not received the bail refund check, or you would like to verfy your address, please contact the Administrative Services Division at (562) 491-6205.

Children's Waiting Room

Kids Place, a children’s waiting room, provides a fun, safe, clean and caring environment for children while their parents or guardian transact business with the Court. Up to twenty young children, infant to 13 years of age, can be supervised within the facility. Kids Place is operated by employees and community volunteers (who undergo stringent evaluations and background checks), and are trained to interact positively with the children, making them feel welcome and safe.

Kids Place was developed by the “For the Child” organization, a 25 year old Long Beach non-profit organization in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Fourth District Supervisor, Don Knabe and the Los Angeles Superior Court. Kids Place opened on August 7, 2002. The Los Angeles County Children and Family First-Proposition 10 Committee provides the major funding.

Kids Place offers a supervised, child-focused play environment at no cost to its clients. Activities that the children may participate in include games, art projects, toys, reading, PlayStation, videos, computers and other supervised activities. Snacks are also served. In addition, resource assistance and referrals to services such as child care, medical care, shelter, parenting classes, legal aid and other areas are provided.

Admittance to Kid's Place requires the caregiver to read and complete an Information and Agreement form. Each caregiver and child will receive matching bracelets upon admittance, and each child will be released only to the adult wearing the identical bracelet as the child.

Kids Place is located on the 1st Floor, Room 104. Hours are from 8:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Conciliation

The South District requires that parties attend a conciliation conference in all matters where there are issues of child custody or visitation.

Courthouse Consultation Regarding General Legal Information

Available at no cost on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., 2nd Floor, Room 201 on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Civil Harassment And Domestic Violence Temporary Restraining Orders (TRO)

The petitioner must submit their TRO packet for filing between 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 - 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding Court holidays. A case number and hearing date will be assigned at the time of filing. Matters are heard daily from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Cases ending in ODD numbers are set in Department A, Room 41, 4th Floor. Cases ending in EVEN numbers are set in Department N, Room 517, 5th Floor.

Family Law Facilitator's Office

Assists parties with the completion of forms for child support, spousal support and health insurance.

Location - Room 43B, 4th Floor.

Located on 5th Floor, Room 505.

PACE Claims

PACE is a payment system for Superior Court appointed attorneys and expert witnesses. PACE claim forms may be acquired through the Criminal Division, Room 401. A PACE Appointment Order must be attached with the claim form for your claim to be processed. You may send your PACE Claim to Los Angeles Superior Court, Attn: PACE Management, 320 W. Temple Street, Room 25, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Claims are processed within 30 to 45 days after the submission date. If it has been more than 45 days since your claim was submitted and you have not received payment, please call (213) 974-7539.

SELF-HELP CENTER

The Legal Resource Center is located in Room 505, 5th Floor, and contains a branch of the Los Angeles County Law Library and a new Self-Help Legal Access Center.

The Center is part of a creative public outreach project undertaken to improve access to justice for all members of the community. The Center’s staff can assist the public in completing legal forms, offer legal options and provide information that helps the public understand court rules and procedures.

The Law Library maintains California legal materials including statutes, case law and treatises covering a variety of legal subject areas such as criminal procedures, landlord tenant and family law. In addition, the Law Library provides free access to Westlaw, an online legal database, for both attorneys and the public.

The Law Library/Self Help Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each day, Monday through Friday, a Library Assistant is available from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Self-Help staff is available through the open time.

Returned Checks

There is a service charge for every check returned unpaid. Payment will be accepted in person or by mail to the address provided in the letter received. Payment must be in the form of cash, cashier's check, money order, or certified check. Do not send cash through the mail. Do not send a payment until you receive a letter from the court.

Witness Fees (Non-Expert)

If you served as a non-expert witness and are requesting fees, you may obtain a claim form in the Criminal Division, Room 401. Witness Fee Claims must be approved by the judicial officer presiding over the case. Claims are processed in the accounting section within 30 days after the claim was approved. If it has been over 30 days since your claim was approved by the judicial officer and you have not received payment, contact the accounting section at (562) 491-6205.
