When a Los Angeles theft crime defense attorney represents a client, they can range from a young person who is down on their luck to someone who is much older. In one case in Torrance, a woman who is much older than the average criminal is in need of some major assistance from a lawyer.
The woman, Doris Thompson, has a criminal record that dates back to 1955 and has operated under at least two dozen different aliases throughout the years. She was sentenced on February 24 to 3 years in prison following a December arrest for a burglary of a Torrance medical building.
Thompson thanked the judge for not sending her to county jail and knew that her plea bargain and quick guilty plea saved her from a lengthy sentence that could have seen her spending up to 12 years in prison.
According to employees at the medical building, Thompson snuck into the building as a male employee was working and stuck around until her left on December 19. She then proceeded to take items from drawers and money as well. Thompson was arrested on February 4 and was charged with burglary. Her criminal record began on 1955; her first offense was disturbing the peace. Over the next half century, Thompson was arrested for crimes such as; petty theft, burglary, connection to a homicide, forgery, receiving stolen property and grand theft. She served jail time for many of the offenses over the years.
Thompson was ordered to pay the medical building $1,427 as reimbursement for the crime. Thompson has had a very long criminal record that dates back more than a half century, but other defendants who are first time offenders can also face similar consequences regardless of it being their first or twentieth time committing a crime. Thompson was deemed insane and sent to a hospital in connection with the homicide, but she continued to commit because she believes that the government doesn’t support its citizens, financially, as well as they should.
