Los Angeles Gang Crime

Given the above circumstances and there are no foreseeable and apparent biases in the judicial system, the fact that these two men had once been acquitted for rape means that the jury probably had “reasonable doubt” that this event had occurred or that the Prosecution simply did not provide a strong enough argument to convict them. Also, because gang affiliation is not a crime, how is it that a mere allegation of gang affiliation can be enough to sway a jury either way. I don’t think that this is fair to let a potentially false claim of a person being “possibly affiliated to a gang” to incriminate them for larger crimes such as rape, extortion, and such. However, the two men that are being currently discussed are indeed a part of a gang. Because of the image that gangs in LA have been portrayed through multiple mediums such as the news media and in Hollywood, these allegations of gang related trials are often taken to be much more serious compared to those that aren’t. Depending on how much evidence these allegations of extortion and execution of fellow gang member exists, it will be more clear how to argue this. While gangs have had a history of violent crime, it is important to recognize each case differently and punish only for crimes that are committed, not blind allegations made.
