Reward Offered in Murder Mystery

In cases that damage a community, or that are particularly heinous in nature, police and/or government officials will offer a financial reward to anyone who has information on the crime that could help law enforcement. Rewards will vary depending on the seriousness of the crime, what area the crime happened in and how desperate the officials are for information.

In Pacoima, CA, one such case arose, a murder that was damaging to the community and serious in nature. Abraham Guerrero, a one-time LAPD Explorer who aspired to become a peace officer, was fatally shot Dec. 28 while visiting with friends who had returned from military service in Iraq. The Los Angeles City Council is offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who has valuable information that could help police solve the crime.

The shot came from a car which held people who were arguing. Someone in the car pulled out a gun, opened fire and shot Guerrero who was walking on the street. Police suspect the killing was done by a gang member.

One of the challenges in connecting information this way is that paying people to do the job of the police can be iffy. It may expose someone in the community who may become targets of those committing the violence. It may also cause neighbors to turn on each other and try getting innocent individuals in trouble with the law over unrelated matters.
