Civil and Small Claims Department
Office hours for filing: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Telephone hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. The Los Angeles County Department of Consumer Affairs Small Claims Court Advisor Program, (213) 974-9759, offers additional information and assistance with Small Claims. Legal Aid may be reached at (562) 864-9935 (Norwalk location) or (562) 435-3501 (Long Beach location). Civil Fax Filings (see fax number above) must be in compliance with CRC 201.
Special Requirements For Small Claims
Information regarding a scheduled hearing date form must be dated, signed and submitted with each new case filed. Multiple filers are required to type their own forms. Multiple filers are limited to submitting nine claims per week. Parties should file the proof of service with the Clerk's Office at least five days prior to the hearing date. A Request for Continuance must be received in the Clerk's Office at least 10 days prior to the hearing. A $10.00 fee is required if the defendant has been served.

Custody information is available daily after 10:00 a.m. at Clerk's Office Windows #3 or #4 or by calling (562) 804-8020.
Traffic Department
Office hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
If the name and address on your citation are correct, you should receive a courtesy notice in the mail prior to your appearance date. Note: Receipt of a courtesy notice is not guaranteed. If you do not receive a courtesy notice – do not disregard your citation.
Your options, to take care of your citation (on or before your due date) are as follows:
Court Appearance: If you wish to appear in court or your ticket is a mandatory court appearance, you must check-in with the Clerk's Office – Traffic Department, Monday through Friday (except holidays) at 8:00 a.m. sharp. Please note, it is important to be prompt as only a limited number of walk-ins will be scheduled to appear in court.

Non-Court Appearance: If you would like to sign up for traffic school, pay your ticket, plead not guilty, etc., please see the window clerk/cashier in the Clerk's Office – Traffic Department (usually window #7), Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Please note, on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month the hours are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
